Women's Track Team Receives Academic Honor

Aug. 6, 2008

New Orleans, La. - The Southeast Missouri State University women's track team has been named a Scholar Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Redhawks had the nation's 17th highest grade point average at 3.379.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements. There were only two Ohio Valley Conference schools recognized with Southeast in 17th place and Eastern Kentucky 116th. A total of 117 schools with a 3.0 or higher GPA were honored.

The Southeast women's track team finished fourth in the OVC outdoor championships and fifth in the OVC indoor championships. The Southeast men's team won the OVC outdoor title.

"Our athletes do a great job not only on the track but in the classroom," said new Southeast head coach Eric Crumpecker. "It is an honor to be in the academic top 20 nationally."
