Southeast Track to Open Season at the Arkansas State Kick-Off Classic

Dec. 2, 2005

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Friday December 02, 2005)  The Redhawks will start their 2005-2006 track season on Saturday December 3.  Southeast will once again travel to Arkansas State to compete in the Arkansas State Kick-Off Classic in Jonesboro Arkansas. Southeast won the Ohio Valley Conference outdoor championships last year and will start to defend their title on Saturday.

This event has attracted many nationally ranked teams in the past and this year will be no different.  The Classic is held right before Christmas break so the track team will have motivation to work hard during the break.

"This is a good early meet to tell us where we are and what we need to work on," said Southeast Coach Joey Haines.  "We will be particularly interested in how our freshmen perform because they will be going against collegiate competition for the first time."

After the break the team will travel to Carbondale to compete in the Saluki Booster Invitational on January 20th.

Almost every track athlete will be competing Saturday with the notable exception of Junior standout Miles Smith.  The Arkansas State Kick-Off Classic will be held all day on Saturday December 3rd.  Results will be posted on GoSoutheast.com.
