Miles Smith Wins At Arkansas State

Jonesboro, Ark. - Senior All-American Miles Smith of Southeast Missouri State opened the indoor season with a win in the 200-meters at the ASU Kickoff Klassic. Smith's time of 21.14 establishes a new school record and stands as the fastest time in the United States in the first week of the season.

Smith also ran on the winning Southeast 4 X 400-meter relay team that won with a time of 3:17.16. Smith's relay split was 46.6.

Freshman sprinter T.J. Walls won the 55-meters in a time of 6.50. The Southeast women's team was led by hurdler Whitney Thomas who was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.28.

The Redhawks women's 4 X 400-meter relay was third in a time of 3:56.15. Team members included Brenda Whitworth, Thomas, Jerica Hamm and Natasha Fortenberry.

Whitworth also placed fourth in the 600-meters in a time of 1:39.70 while Hamm was fifth in the 400 at 58.61.

The Southeast jumpers and distance runners did not compete at Arkansas State, but the jumpers will be in action on Friday night at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.
