Track and Field Athletes Compete Well at Arkansas State

Cape Giraradeau, Mo (December 7, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State University track teams opened the indoor season at Arkansas State University bringing home several first place finishes. Both teams had quite an impressive showing in the first meet of the season.

On the women's side Heather Jenkins brought home two first place finishes in the shot put and weight throw. Jenkins won the shot put with a throw of 48'8 and won the weight throw with 55'8. Other first place finishes included LaQuita Andrews in the 400 meter dash in 58.58. She also anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay team that took first place. The other members of the 4x400 meter relay were Lyndsey Stevenson, Nyisha Porter and Juanita Coleman. Coleman was also first place in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:18. Michelle Jett won the pole vault at 11'0 and Lindsey Meyr took first in the long jump in a leap of 18'5.
 

 

The women's team brought home 7 first place finishes of the 14 events at the meet.

Second place finishes included Lyndsey Stevenson in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.24 and Megan Youse in the shot put with a throw of 44'4 and weight throw in 51'5.

Nichole Portell was third place in the shot put with a throw of 42'6. Natasha Fortenberry was fifth place in the 200 meter dash in 25.85.

On the men's side Jay Heddell took first place in the shot put with a throw of 55'3 and Daniel Jones was first place in the weight throw with a throw of 54'6.

Second place finishes for the men included Andrew Lambert in the high jump with a jump of 6'2, Colin Sheridan in the pole vault at 14'6 and the 4x400 meter relay that included Alonzo Nelson, Miles Smith, Gabe Nicholson and Chaz Brown in 3:21.09.

David Herman placed 4th in the 55 meter hurdles in 7.65.

Teams competing in the meet were Ole Miss, University of Memphis, Jackson State, Arkansas State and Lamar University.

The Southeast track and field teams will be back in action after the Christmas Break competing in the University of Missouri Invitational January 17, 2004.
