Redhawks Runners Set The Pace at Stegemoller Classic

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Saturday, August 30, 2008) - The Redhawks cross country teams started the 2008 season fast with an impressive showing at the Stegemoller Classic in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday evening. The men's team won the 6K team title and the women finished third in the 4K.

The men's team had five top-ten finishes with the Redhawks having the first three runners across the finish line. Brandon Karcher, Nate Shipley and Dustin Davis led the pack and fought each other for the lead the final 200 meters. Karcher gained the upperhand and crossed the line at 18:45 followed by Shipley (18:50) and Davis (18:52). Karcher's mile split was 5:02.

Chris Loseman wasn't far behind as he finished seventh with a time of 18:59. Jason Lumpkin rounded out the top-ten finishes with a tenth place showing at 19:06. Paul Stemmerman came in at 19:25 for a 15th-place showing.

The Redhawks finished ahead of host Southern Indiana followed by Bellarmine University and Brescia University.

On the women's side the Redhawks finished behind Southern Indiana and Bellarmine for their third place showing.

Linnea Woldtvedt was the top individual finisher for the Redhawks as she was beaten out Alliie Shafer at the line for third. She finished with a time of 14:59 with a mile split was 6:02.

Monica Noble finished 12th with a time of 15:39. Kasey Owens (16:25), Lauren Heidbrink (16:26), Danielle Henry (17:02), Kelly Good (17:23) and Amy Guignon finished 17th through 21st.

2007 NCAA Midwest Regional Qualifier Juli Koenegstein ran unattached and showed no ill affects from an injury that shut her down for the 2008 outdoor track season. She crossed the line behind winner Mary Ballinger in 14:49 but her finish did not count towards the team and individual scores. Her mile split was timed in at 5:58.

The teams will take a few weeks off before heading north to participate in the EIU Invitational hosted by Ohio valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois on Friday, September 12 in Charleston, Illinois. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
