Women's Cross Country Wins USI Stegemoller Classic
Sept. 1, 2007 EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Southeast Missouri State cross country opened the 2007 season tonight with a pair of good showings at the University of Southern Indiana's Stegemoller Classic at the USI Cross Country Course in Evansville, Ind. The women's team captured first place with 29 points and the men's team finished third with 69 points. Junior Juli Koenegstein (Chester, Ill.) led the Redhawks by claiming second-place honors with a time of 14:29. Sophomore Linnea Woldveldt (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) placed fourth at a time of 14:52, freshman Brandi Gervais (Waynesville, Mo.) finished sixth with a time of 14:57, freshman Laura Gosen (Chesterfield, Mo.) notched an eighth-place showing at a time of 14:58 and sophomore Amy Warren (Cincinnati, Ohio) took ninth with a time of 15:03. Also competing were freshman Monica Noble (10th - 15:04), junior Esther Mathias (27th - 16:02), freshman Kasey Owens (35th - 16:36) and sophomore Katie Mueller (37th - 17:09). On the men's side, junior Brandon Karcher (Mt. Vernon, Ill.) led Southeast by finishing seventh at a time of 18:28 and freshman Brandon Funderburk (St. Peters, Mo.) captured ninth place with a time of 18:54. Senior Tom Kinder (St. Peters, Mo.) finished 16th with a time of 19:16, sophomore Paul Stemmerman (Eureka, Mo.) was 19th at a time of 19:29 and sophomore James Lee (Eureka, Mo.) placed 31st with a time of 19:51. Senior Brad DeMattei (Centralia, Ill.) posted a time of 20:02 for a finish of 37th place. Southeast is back in action on Sept. 14 when it competes at the Eastern Illinois Invitational starting at 5 p.m. |
