Redhawks Finish Sixth at Memphis Twilight Classic

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Monday September 12, 2005)   Saturday night the Redhawks ran their way to a sixth place finish at the Memphis Twilight Classic.  The women ran a three mile run then the men had their four mile run.  Both the men and women defeated their conference rivals Murray State and Austin Peay.

 

The women featured four top 50 finishes.  Lindsay Zeiler led the way finishing 13th out of 165 participants with a time of 17:55.14.  The next finisher was the senior Jen Caywood who finished 18th with a time of 18:14.84.  Overall the women finished with 168 points good enough to get them a sixth place finish.  Freshmen Amy Warren finish 36th in 18:51.65.  Freshmen Juli Koenegstein finished 48th with a time of 19:16.64.  Other Women runners were Hannah Korte (60th,  19:29.45), Brittni Peck (62nd, 19:39.14), and Sarah Verelst (73rd, 20:00.23).

 

The men also finished sixth and had four top 50 finishers as well.  Gabe Lutes was the men's top finisher with the 23 best time overall (21:02.39).  Sophomore Kirk Nesbit had a time of 21:13.62 which was good enough for finishing 32nd.  Sophomore Danny Stults finished 37th with a time of 21:18.09.  Other men participating were Brad DeMattei (48th, 21:26.96), Mark McNamara (64th, 21:53.15), and Chris Herren (22:20.65).

 

The Redhawk's are off this weekend and their next event is September 24 at the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
