CHARLESTON, Ill. - Southeast Missouri State cross country competed at the EIU Panther Open here this evening on the campus of Eastern Illinois. The men's team finished third with 106 points, while the women's team placed fifth with 133 points. Southern Illinois scored 36 points to capture the men's team title, while Wisconsin tallied 15 points to win the women's crown.

Sophomore Kevin McNab (St. Charles, Mo.) finished second in the men's 8k race with a time of 25:07.82. Sophomore Brandon Karcher (Mt. Vernon, Ill.) placed 21st at a time of 26:31.85 and freshman Dustin Davis (Edwardsville, Ill.) finished 24th with a time 26:48.94. Junior Danny Stults (Springfield, Ill.) took 28th place with a time of 27:02.10. Also running for the Redhawks were sophomore Tom Kinder (47th - 27:50.85) and junior Kyle Lemarbe (67th - 28:49.66).

In the women's 5k race, sophomore Juli Koenegstein (Chester, Ill.) paced the Redhawks with a 16th-place finish at a time of 18:51.05. Sophomore Brittni Peck (Sparta, Ill.) finished 30th with a time of 19:39.22 and junior Sarah Vereist (Washington, Mo.) placed 36th at a time of 20:20.70. Freshman Sarah Johnson (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) claimed 25th place with a time of 20:32.01. Fellow classmates Katie Mueller (54th - 22:19.11) and Jordan Boles (60th - 23:04.18) also finished the meet for the Redhawks.

Southeast is back in action at the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 30 with the first race starting at 9:30 p.m.
