Cross Country Teams Hold Their Own at Greater Louisville Classic
Oct. 3, 2009 By Haley BohnertSports Information AssistantLOUISVILLE, Ky (Saturday, October 3, 2009) - The Redhawks cross country continued to find success in Louisville, Kentrucky. After nearly a month off from competition both teams looked strong at the Greater Louisville Classic. The men's team finished 24th overall and the women's team placed 26th in a meet that featured 76 different colleges and nearly 2,800 runners. For the men's team, junior Jason Lumpkin again led the team with a time of 25:01.18 on the 8K course. That time placed him 40th overall and he was the 36th collegian to cross the finish line. His time set a new career best at the distance. Fellow junior Chris Loseman finished 65th with a time of 25:23.61 followed by freshman Tyler Mullen who placed 201st with a time of 26:42.19 and Cody Martin who finished 225th with a time of 26:55.78. Brandon Funderburk (26:59.73) and Joel Krause (27:04.82) respectively finished 229th and 236th. Devon Dudding and Alex Zisser were not far behind with finishes in the top 300. Dudding finished 246th with a time of 27:16.17 and Zisser came in 273rd with a time of 27:42.43. Overall, in the men's gold division there were 334 competitors. Loseman, Krause, Dudding, and Zisser all set new career-bests with their times in the 8K. Former Redhawks cross country and track standout Brandon Karcher placed 67th with a time of 25:25.17 as he ran unattached. On the women's side Monica Noble finished 51st with a time of 18:33.36 setting new career best. Szandra Pal continued her strong running with a time of 19:14.55, placing 106th. Liz Speicher (19:34.35), Linnea Woldtvedt (20:03.37), Kasey Owens (20:16.13), Lanie Haertling (21:40.25), and Kelly Good (22:34.22) finished 146th, 191st, 211th, 268th, and 279th respectively. The women's division had 291 racers. For the men's division Stephen Sambu from Rend Lake College finished 1st with a time of 23:33.22. Janet Jesang from Western Kentucky University finished 1st with a time of 16:47.97. The host Cardinals were the top team finisher with 68 points on the men's competition. On the women's side the Purdue Boilermakers finished first with 88 points. The Redhawks will gear up for the UE Invitational in Evansville, Indiana on Oct. 17in Evansville, Indiana on Oct. 17. |
