Redhawks Cross Country Finish Third And Fifth At OVC Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast men's and women's cross country teams finished up their regular season at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships earlier today in Clarksville, Tenn. The men's team placed third with 75 points and the women's teamed placed fifth 135 total points. Eastern Kentucky men's team won its 15th OVC Championship and the Eastern Kentucky women's team took home their 21st title.

The Redhawks men was led sophomore Kevin McNab, who placed second in the 8K and had a time of 25:25. Brandon Karcher was also in the top eight. He placed seventh with a time of 25:44. Next was James Lee who finished 18th with a time of 26:41. Following Lee was Chris Herren who placed 22nd with a time of 26:47. Danny Stults finished 26th with a time of 26:58. Dustin Davis placed 30th with a time of 27:19. Mark McNamara was 42nd with a time 27:54 and Paul Stemmerman was 48th with a time of 28:07.

Juli Koenegstein led the Redhawks women as she finished eighth with a time of 19:05. She was followed by teammates Brittni Peck who finished 18th with a time of 19:39 and Sarah Verelst who finished 27th with a time of 20:11. Next was Sarah Johnson, who finished 36th and posted a time of 20:33. Linnea Woldtvedt was 49th and had a time of 21:15. Jacque Risley placed 58th with a time of 21:38. Jordan Boles rounded out the Southeast women and finished at 71st with a time of 22:43.

Southeast had three runners earn All-OVC honors. McNab and Karcher were first team selections, while Koenegstein made the second team.

EKU's Jacob Korir and Samford's Katherine Herring were named OVC Male and Female Athlete of the Year. EKU's Coach Rick Erdmann was named both the men's and women's OVC Coach of the Year.
