Redhawks Cross Country Will Compete At Greater Louisville Classic

Sept. 27, 2006

By: Natasha Fortenberry, SEMO Sports Information

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (September 27, 2006) - Southeast men's and women's cross country teams will be in action this weekend at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. The event will take place at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. The men's Gold 8K race is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. followed by the women's Gold 5K race at 10:15.

The event will have over 1,200 athletes expected to compete. Because of the large numbers of teams and athletes entered, the event will contest four sections. The Gold section will have 38 men's teams and 34 women's teams. The Blue section will have 35 men's teams, and 40 women's teams. Out of all sections, 18 men's teams and 14 women's teams are nationally ranked.

Both the Southeast men's and women's teams have had two weeks of intense training in preparation for Saturday and should have solid performances. The Redhawks men's team welcomes back Chris Herren. He has been competing unattached, but is back and will add depth on the men's side.

"I am really looking forward to the meet this weekend, says coach Miles Krieger." The team is stepping up and we have a chance to prove ourselves. The GLC meet is a little larger than regionals and will feature a lot of quality Division-I schools."

Competing with Southeast from the Ohio Valley Conference will be Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, and Morehead State. Murray State will also be in attendance but are schedule to compete in the Blue section.
