Southeast Cross Country Travels to Kentucky For Weekend Contest

Sept. 27, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast men's and women's cross country teams will be in action this weekend at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. The event will take place at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

The men and women will contest in four sections. The first men's 8K race will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the first women's 6k race at 10:15 a.m. The second men's 8k race is at 11 a.m., while the second women's 6k race is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.

The event will feature more than 110 teams from more than 50 schools and 14 states. Of those schools, 11 men's teams and six women's teams are regionally ranked, including the host Louisville, whose men are ranked third and women are ranked 11th in the Southeast region.

Competing with Southeast from the Ohio Valley Conference, will be Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State and Murray State.

The Redhawks women enter the meet after sweeping three team titles at the USI Stegemoller Classic on September 1, the Panther Opener on September 14, and the Saluki Invitational on September 22. Leading the way for the women is Juli Koenegstein, who has captured two individual wins in the first two events of the season.

The Redhawks men's team enters the meet after a third place team finish at the USI Stegemoller Classic on September 1and a second place finish at the Saluki Invitational on September 22. They have been led by Brandon Funderburk, who has been the top individual performer in both meets. The men will return in full force as several top runners make their showing in this weekend's competition.

The Greater Louisville Classic is a great meet for both teams to prove themselves as they take on some of the nation's talented teams. Both the Southeast men's and women's teams have had a week of intense training in preparation for Saturday.
