Cross Country Teams Will Take Short Trip To Southern Illinois

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (October 5, 2006) - The Southeast Missouri State men's and women's cross country teams will race on Saturday, October 7, in the Saluki Invitational. The event will be held at the SIU Cross Country Course in Carbondale. Ill. The women's 5K will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8K at 10:45.

Teams competing with the host Salukis and the Redhawks include Arkansas State University, Creighton University, Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University, Murray State University, University of Evansville, University of Illinois, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Saint Louis University, and University of Southern Indiana.

Last weekend, the Southeast men had an impressive meet at the Greater Louisville Classic. They finished ninth in their division out of 36 teams, placing ahead of regionally ranked Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Strong contributions were made by junior Kevin McNab (27th - 25:03.93), senior Chris Herren (66th - 25:49.75), freshman Dustin Davis (76th - 25:58.53), sophomore Brandon Karcher (81st - 26:01.63), and junior Danny Stults (151st - 26:40.65). Also running for the Redhawks were freshman Paul Stemmerman, sophomore Tom Kinder, and senior Mark McNamara.

The Southeast women also competed in the Greater Louisville Classic. The team finished 26th out of 31 teams. Sophomores Juli Koenegstein (56th - 19:01.48) and Brittni Peck (109th - 19:40.60) were the top two runners for the Redhawks. Other southeast runners were junior Sarah Verelst, freshman Stephanie Harres, and sophomore Sarah Johnson.

Both teams are stepping up and looking forward to another successful meet.
