Redhawks Move Up in USTFCCCA Regional Rankings

Oct. 22, 2008

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State men's cross country team moved up two spots in the most recent Division I men's midwest regional cross country rankings put out by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Redhawks have moved from No. 13 to No. 11 in the fourth week of the poll.

Senior Brandon Karcher led the Redhawks to a 27-point victory over the Memphis Tigers in the Redhawks Classic on October 17. Karcher won the meet with a time of 26:05.7. Dustin Davis (26:37.1), and Nate Shipley (26:40.0) rounded out the top three for the 8K meet at Jaycee Golf Course.

Nationally-ranked Oklahoma State continues to lead the USTFCCCA midwest poll. Minnesota, Tulsa, Iowa State and Southern Illinois round out the top five. The Redhawks are one of only three Ohio Valley Conference teams ranked in the nine different USTFCCCA regional polls. Eastern Kentucky ranks No. 4 in the USTFCCCA southeast poll while Morehead State sits at No. 14.

The Redhawks will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 1 when they host the OVC Championship at the Jaycee Golf Course in Cape Girardeau. Staring time for the women's 5K will be 9 a.m. while the men's 8K begins at 9:45 a.m.
