Southeast Cross Country Heads to Illinois for NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State cross country will compete this Saturday at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships, hosted by Bradley University. The event will take place at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. The men's 10K race will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 12:15 p.m. The Redhawks women are coming off a third place finish at the OVC Championships last week. Competing at the regional meet will be Juli Koenegstein who has been the top individual finisher in every event. Koenegstein placed seventh at the OVC championships and gained first team honors. Brandi Gervais has been the consistent number two runner and also claimed OVC honors. Also competing will be Laura Gosen, Kasey Owens, Monica Noble and Linnea Woldtvedt. The men's team will be led by the duo of Brandon Karcher and Brandon Funderburk. Karcher, placed 78th in last year's regional championship and will be looking to improve his overall finish. Funderburk will be making his first showing at a regional event. The men will be helped by Dustin Davis, Jason Lumpkin and Chris Loseman. Also competing will be Brad DeMattei and Paul Stemmerman. Teams competing along with the host Braves and the Redhawks will be several Big 10 Conference schools including Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois on the women's side, and Oklahoma State, Minnesota and Tulsa for the men. |
