Box Score

OXFORD, Miss. - (Tuesday, March 15, 2005) - Junior right fielder Brian Pettway hit a walk-off double to lift No. 14 (Baseball America) Ole Miss to a 6-5 win over Southeast Missouri State Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The win was the ninth straight for the Rebels (14-3), while the loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Redhawks (6-8).

Southeast Missouri State tied the game in the top of the ninth on a two-out, two-run pinch-hit single by Chris Gibson. Eric Horstman started the rally with a two-out single and Freddy Lopez then reached on an error to put runners on second and third. Gibson then followed with his single to tie the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, Chris Coghlan hit a lead-off double and Stephen Head was then intentionally walked to bring up Pettway. Pettway lined a 2-1 pitch from Joey Evans into the right center gap to score Coghlan.

Pettway (1-0) also earned the win, working the ninth inning in relief. He allowed two unearned runs on three hits and struck out two.

Evans (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings. He also struck out one.

Pettway finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Jon-Jon Hancock and Alex Presley also had two hits on the night as the Rebels out-hit the Redhawks 10-8.

Frank Montiel went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Redhawks at the plate.

The two teams will conclude the two-game series Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m., but was moved up due to forecasted inclement weather.
