Renfrow Tosses Complete Game Shutout in 5-0 Southeast Win
March 16, 2007
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Friday, March 16, 2007) Redhawks starter Dustin Renfrow threw a complete game shutout on Friday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the Southeast baseball team won their second straight game, 5-0. Renfrow (West Plains, Mo./Jefferson CC) earned his second victory of the season and allowed just four base hits in the game. After allowing a pair of singles in the first inning, the junior right-hander did not allow another base hit until the ninth inning. In the meantime, only three other Golden Lions (4-13) batters reached base while Renfrow also struck out four hitters. In the bottom of the first, freshman Nick Harris (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) led off the game with a base hit for the sixth time in seven games. Harris stole second base and advanced to third on the catcher's wild throw, and he scored the first run of the game when Jim Klocke (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney HS) singled through the right side of the infield. After Harris scored the first run, Renfrow (2-0) was on cruise control on the pitching mound, as he allowed just two runners to reach base until the ninth inning.
The next inning, Daniel Schuh (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenney HS) doubled to left field with the bases loaded, driving in a pair of RBIs in Dustin Pritchett (Kennett, Mo./Forest Park CC) and Matt Wulfers (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Missouri). While Southeast tallied just six hits on offense, they displayed patience at the plate as the Redhawks drew a season-high seven walks in the ballgame. Their patience paid off as three of the batters who reached base on balls came around to score. The offensive production was spread up and down the lineup - six batters each recorded a hit, and every Redhawks hitter reached base at least once.
Southeast and the Golden Lions will conclude the weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow. Shah will start the first game on the mound for the Redhawks at 1 p.m., and Josh Syberg (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney HS) will start game two of the doubleheader. Each game can be heard live on ESPN 1220 AM KGIR or via webcast at www.kgir.com. |
