COLUMBIA, Mo. - (Wednesday, April 13, 2005) It was a whole different ballgame this time around for Redhawks against 13-ranked Missouri as the Tigers used a six-run second inning and five pitchers to prevent any late innings heroics to beat the Redhawks 10-2 at Taylor Stadium in Columbia Wednesday evening.

Freshman Casey Johnson struggled in his fourth start of the season allowing six runs on four hits and five walks in 1.1 innings of work.

The Tigers (27-6) did their damage against Johnson in the bottom of the second scoring six runs capped by a James Boone bases-loaded triple.

Meanwhile Tiger pitchers Nick Admire and Michael Cole silenced the bats of the Redhawks (12-19) holding them hitless for the first five innings.

The Redhawks did manufacture a run off of Cole in the fourth. Frank Montiel walked to lead-off the inning and then moved to second when Trevor Helms committed an error on a James Clayton grounder. Brady Noll walked to load the bases. Montiel then scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Chris Gibson making the score 6-1. Jordan Payne walked to load the bases again with only one out, but Cole pitched out of the jam retiring Bo Jenkins and Eric Horstman.

Ryan Forsyth did his part in trying to keep the Redhawks in the game as he shutout the Tigers for 3.2 innings allowing only a single.

The Tigers added a run in the sixth and then three more in the seventh to make put the game out of reach 10-1.

The Redhawks again loaded the bases in the eighth, but could only muster one run when Ernie Bracamonte walked to force Bryan Kurt home for the final margin of 10-2.

Despite the Tigers giving up eight free passes they Redhawks couldn't capatilize and left a season-high 14 runners on base.

The Tigers held the Redhawks to only five hits, none of which went for extra bases.

Payne led the Redhawks reaching base in all four plate appearances with two singles and two walks.

Bracamonte went 1-3 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Tigers 1 thru 4 batters did the damage against the Redhawks, collecting nine of the ten Tiger RBIs.

Helms went 2-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Cole won his first game of the season and Johnson suffered his third loss.

The Redhawks return to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend when they travel to Clarksville, Tennessee to face Austin Peay for a twinbill on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. and conclude the series with one game on Sunday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m.
