Hopkins Blasts Tribe Past Arkansas State
Cape Girardeau, Mo. (April 15, 2003) - Left fielder Brian Hopkins was 3-4 with 3 RBI and two runs scored and was a triple shy of the cycle today as the Indians of Southeast Missouri State defeated Arkansas State by the score of 7-6. Southeast moves to 18-10, while ASU falls to 17-18. Southeast got on the board first as third baseman Denver Stuckey took the first pitch of the game over the right field wall for his third homer of the season. Both teams scored in the third as Hopkins hit the second homer of the game for the Tribe. Hopkins got a two run double in the fifth as part of a 4-run inning for Southeast. ASU would score three more times including a late run in the ninth, but Southeast got their seventh run in the seventh and that would be all the Indian pitching staff needed. Stan Skakalski (3-0) pitched five innings and allowed three runs, one earned to earn his third victory of the season. James Beever and Gary Gilbert pitched the final four innings of the game with Gilbert recording his first save of the season. Stuckey was 3-4 on the day with two runs and two RBI as he extended his hitting streak to 12 games. With his lead-off homer in the first, that marked the fourth straight game he has led off with a hit. Centerfielder Seth Moulton and second baseman Justin Christian each had two hits for the Tribe. Southeast will now travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. tomorrow to take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State University at 3 p.m. |
