Box Score

Clarksville, Tenn. (April 27, 2003) - Home runs from Denver Stuckey, Brian Hopkins and Justin Christian helped seal an 8-6 victory today for the Tribe over Austin Peay as Bill Clayton threw seven strong innings in helping the Indians to win its second series of the season and pull to within one game of OVC-leader Tennessee Tech. Southeast now goes to 22-14, 6-5 in the OVC, while Peay falls to 17-23, and 6-4-1 in the conference.

Southeast got on the board in the first inning as Stuckey doubled down the left field line to start the game. After two outs and a walk to Christian, Gary Gilbert singled and drove in both runners, while advancing to second on the throw.

Both teams scored in the third inning as Hopkins singled with one out. Christian then followed that with a titanic blast to left field giving the Tribe a 4-2 advantage. Peay got two more back in its half of the inning as two singles, two walks and a sac fly drove in a pair.

The Tribe got another in the fourth on an RBI single from Hopkins scoring right fielder Wade Hansford. Neither team would score again till the seventh as Southeast pushed another across to make it a 6-2 lead. With a 1-0 count, Hopkins hit his 11th homer of the season to left field.

Stuckey hat a homer of his own in the eighth that proved to be critical as Peay pushed across four late runs to make it a tight game abut Southeast pulled it out for the 8-6 win.
