Southeast Hosts Billikens for Wednesday Afternoon Meeting

The Southeast Missouri State baseball team will play host to the Saint Louis University Billikens tomorrow (Wednesday), at 3 p.m. at Capaha Field.
Scouting Southeast...Southeast improved its record to 3-5 on Sunday with a double-header sweep of Brescia University on Sunday.
Junior outfielder Eric Horstman led the way offensively for Southeast in game one, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
In game two, junior Anthony Maupin pitched five innings and allowed just two hits before giving it over to senior Bill Clayton who closed out the final two innings. Southeast scored five runs in the third and three more in the sixth to win it 8-0.
Scouting SLU...St. Louis (4-7) is coming off a three-game series this weekend with Illinois-Chicago in which the Billikens went 2-1. SLU won the first two games before losing the third 18-3. St. Louis averaged better than nine runs per game over the three game set as they won Friday's game 10-9 and Saturday's 15-13.
SLU's other 2004 wins came against Indiana State and Creighton. The Billikens topped ISU 8-4 on Feb. 25, and beat Creighton 8-2 two days later.
Junior infielder Pat Steinhoff leads the SLU offense with a .353 average. His 12 hits lead the team, and he has five runs, and six RBI thus far. Senior Kyle Wort it the top power threat for St. Louis, having put two over the wall already this year. Wort leads the team in slugging percentage and has a team-high seven RBI.
Ryan Bird, today's starter, is 1-1 on the mound in three appearances. He boasts a 2.70 ERA and has 12 strikeouts to only six walks.
