Dustin Renfrow Named OVC Pitcher of the Week
March 19, 2007 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Monday, March 19, 2007) Southeast Missouri State's Dustin Renfrow (West Plains, Mo./Jefferson CC) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. It is the junior's second such honor in three weeks as he also earned the award on March 5. Renfrow was recognized after throwing a complete game shutout on Friday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The shutout was the first of his career as he improved his record to 2-0 in the Southeast victory. The right-hander allowed just four hits through nine innings pitched, along with five strikeouts compared to just one walk. After giving up two base hits in the first inning, he held the Golden Lions hitless until the ninth. The West Plains, Mo., native lowered his ERA to 1.45 with the shutout effort - a mark that ranks second in the OVC behind only teammate Asif Shah (1.29). Renfrow leads the Redhawks with 31.0 innings pitched, and he is holding opposing batters to a .195 batting average. He has struck out 18 batters and walked only six. Two weeks ago, Renfrow earned OVC Pitcher of the Week honors as well as a spot on the weekly College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll for his start against Cleveland State on March 3. In the game against the Vikings, he pitched seven and one-thirds innings, allowed one unearned run on four hits, and he struck out six batters. The OVC weekly award is the fourth of its kind bestowed upon a Southeast. In addition to Renfrow's two awards, sophomore first baseman Matt Wagner was named the first OVC Player of the Week of the 2007 season on Feb. 20 and Shah earned the Pitcher of the Week honor on Feb. 26. Southeast will play two midweek games at Central Arkansas starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. They will return home this weekend to open OVC play against Tennessee-Martin. |
