CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Monday, April 03, 2006) - The Ohio Valley Conference announced today that Southeast pitcher Jamie McAlister has been named the OVC Pitcher of the Week. The award is McAlister's second this season, after he earned the distinction on March 13. The senior right-hander is the first Southeast pitcher to be named OVC Pitcher of the Year twice in one season since Tim Alvarez in 2003.

McAlister earned the honors after picking up two wins last week without allowing a single run in 9.2 innings pitched. On Wednesday, he picked up the victory against No. 29 Missouri, retiring all four batters he faced in his third relief appearance of the season. He got the start in game one of a doubleheader Saturday against Murray State, and pitched effectively in a combined shutout effort. McAlister threw 8.1 scoreless innings, put out 6 batters on strikes and allowed only 6 batters to reach base, all on singles. Only two Thoroughbred runners ever made it to second base.

The senior out of Piedmont, Mo. continues to anchor a Southeast pitching staff that has thrown 27 consecutive scoreless innings. McAlister is 4-4 on the season with a 3.61 ERA in 52.1 innings. His 42 strikeouts rank third in the OVC, and he has issued only 9 walks.

McAlister is scheduled to make his next start on Saturday at Jacksonville State. Until then, the Redhawks will travel to Saint Louis University for a game against the Billikens tomorrow, and they will host the Salukis of Southern Illinois on Wednesday at 3 p.m. All games can be heard live on 1220 KGIR or on the internet via www.kgir.com.
