Cape Girardeau, Mo. (April 4, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State University baseball team will open up Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as they play host to the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech for two games on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and one on Sunday at 1p.m., as well.

Southeast is in the midst of an eight game win streak and they have done it on the hot bats of Senior's Zach Borowiak, Tristen McDonald and Brian Hopkins. Borowiak has a 16-game hitting streak, whereas McDonald and Hopkins are in streaks of nine and six games themselves. The Tribe got an exciting win this past Wednesday at Southern Illinois as a spectacular over the shoulder laid out catch from freshman right fielder Aaron Fangman saved the game for the Indians. The catch, with the bases loaded, allowed Southeast to win 7-5.

Borowiak is leading the team with a .347 batting average. He is first in RBI's with 21 and tied with fellow senior Justin Christian for the team lead in homers with four. He leads the team in multiple hit and multiple RBI games with eight and five, respectively. McDonald is second in hitting with a .338 average. Hopkins hits .324 and is third on the team in RBI with 14.

Alvarez is leading the pitching staff with a 7-0 record, and a 1.43 ERA. He has struck out 30 in 44 innings, while allowing only 35 hits in total. Opposing hitters are batting just .224 against Alvarez. Senior righty James Beever stepped in and got his third save of the season and sophomore Jon Nourie had another good outing, while junior lefty Stan Skakalski picked up his first win as an Indian in relief against Southern Illinois.

The Golden Eagles are 11-13 on the season after suffering a two-game sweep to Georgia State this week.

All-OVC shortstop Casey Benjamin is leading the team, as well as most of the OVC in every offensive category. He is hitting .473, with three homers, a team-leading 29 RBI, and has 43 hits on the season.

Ben Downs and Dusty Eubanks are 3-0 and 3-1 respectively on the season, but the team's ace, Doug Vincent has lost two of his last three decisions.

Southeast will have a double-header at Lipscomb University on Tuesday in Nashville, before hosting Southern Illinois on Wednesday and then hitting the road next weekend for a trip to Eastern Kentucky.
