Statiscally Speaking Pennington and Bonilla debut on NCAA stats leader boards.
April 5, 2001 Cape Girardeau, Mo. --- They have been leading their team and conference for weeks and now we can place them among the nation's best. RHP Todd Pennington (Jr., McClure, Ill.) and 2B Clemente Bonilla (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) debuted on the NCAA statistics leaders. Pennington, who started the week with a 1.23 ERA, is currently 11th in the nation. The staff's No.1 lowered that number to 1.20 after a one-inning performance against interstate rival Southern Illinois and also picked up his fifth win of the season. Bonilla has landed on two leader boards -- batting average and doubles per game. The junior entered the week with an average of .444, which ranks him 19th in the country. Bonilla's batting numbers have been leading the Ohio Valley Conference for five consecutive weeks. After two games this week, Bonilla's average dipped slightly to .430. His .58 doubles per game ranks him 9th in the nation. He is leading the team with 15 two-baggers this season. Pennington and Bonilla will be back in action this weekend with an OVC doubleheader against Eastern Kentucky beginning at 2 p.m. The last time these two squads met was in the 2000 OVC Tournament, when Southeast eliminated the Colonels from contention. |
