Redhawks Look to Sweep Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- (Tuesday, April 11, 2005) Southeast Missouri will be on the road Wednesday for a single game against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Simmons Field. The Redhawks used a walk-off homerun by Ernie Bracamonte to defeat the Tigers 8-5 on April 6th at Capaha Field. The Tigers hold a 19-7 advantage all-time against the Redhawks. Scouting Southeast The Redhawks are coming off a weekend series against conference rival Samford. The Redhawks (12-18, 3-6 OVC) lone win of the series came in the second game as the Redhawks defeated Samord 3-1. Southeast fell to Samford 13-5 in game one and 4-2 in game three. Ernie Bracamonte is coming off an outstanding week that led to him being named the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week. Last week Bracamonte hit .524, with six RBIs, five runs scored and two homeruns. Bracamonte also extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Against Missouri on April 6th Bracamonte went 4-6, with five RBIs and a pair of homeruns. The second of Bracamonte's two homeruns came in the bottom of the tenth inning to end the game. On the season Bracamonte is hitting .339, with 16 RBIs and 3 homeruns. Bracamonte leads the Redhawks with 41 hits, 58 total bases and is tied for the team lead with 20 runs scored. Frank Montiel went 4-5, with a run scored and a RBI last time against Mizzou. Montiel leads the team with a .345 average, 11 doubles, 25 RBIs and a .496 slugging percentage. Joey Evans pitched his second complete game to earn his fifth victory of the season against Samford. Evans' three wins last week improved his record to 5-3. Evans has a 2.62 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched.
Catcher Brady Noll is 8-16, with four RBIs and two runs scored in the last five games. Noll went 2-4 with two runs scored last time against Mizzou. On the season Noll is hitting .286, with seven runs scored and three RBIs. Freddy Lopez extended his hitting streak to eight games against Samford. Lopez is third on the team with four multi-hit games on the season. Lopez is hitting .292, with 16 RBIs and 8 runs scored. Ernie Bracamonte and Eric Horstman have started in 87 consecutive games for the Redhawks. Both players have not missed a game during their career at Southeast. Coach Mark Hogan nears another career milestone as he nears the 700 win plateau. Coach Hogan has a career record of 697-507 in his 24th year as a college head coach. In his 11th year at Southeast Coach Hogan has a record of 320-251. Following Wednesday's game the Redhawks will continue their eight game road-trip as they travel to Clarksville, Tennessee for a three-game series against Austin Peay. The Redhawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the series finale on Sunday the first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on both days. The Tigers (26-6, 8-1 Big 12) hold a two game lead over Baylor for first place in the Big 12 conference. The Tigers are led offensively by James Boone. The junior outfielder is hitting .394, with 54 RBIs and 4 homeruns. Sikeston native Jacob Priday is hitting .340, with 42 RBIs and 33 runs scored. The freshman outfielder leads the team with six homeruns. Sophomore infielder Hunter Mense is hitting .394, with 11doubles and 28 RBIs. Junior infielder Trevor Helms is hitting .300, with 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Helms went 4-6, with two RBIs and three runs scored against Southeast on April 6th. The Tigers have outscored opponents 333 to 98 in 32 games this season. Tim Jamieson is in his 11th year as head coach at Missouri with a record of 350-245. |
