St. Louis, Mo. - Former Southeast Missouri State baseball standout Kerry Robinson was called up to join the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. Robinson, who filled a roster spot vacated by a 15-day disabled list victim Mark McGwire, will suit up for the Major Leagues for the second time in his career. He played nine games for Cincinnati in 1999.

Robinson was orginally drafted by the Cardinals in the 34th round in 1995. He rose to the Cards Double-A Arkansas Travelers club and was then traded to Tampa Bay Rays in 1998. Robinson was next traded mid-season in 1999 to Cincinnati, where he made his Major League debut in Septemeber. Last season, Robinson spent the year with the reigning World Champion New York Yankees' Triple-A Columbus Clippers. He hit .318 and led his team with 119 games played, while pounding out 139 hits, 17 doubles and 32 RBI.

Robinson was a member of the Southeast baseball program from 1992-95. His senior season, Robinson collected a 35-game hitting streak, the nation's longest that year.

A speedster on the basepaths, Robinson ended his career setting the Southeast standard with 46 swipes. He continued that success in the minors and stole 37 bases alone last year at Columbus.

Robinson, standing 6-0, 175 pounds, was hitting .325 in 40 at-bats for Memphis this season. He has scored four runs, driven in three and stolen four bases in 10 games for the Redbirds.
