Cape Girardeau, Mo. (April 21, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State Indian baseball team will head out of conference tomorrow as they will travel to Manhattan, Kansas to take on the Wildcats of Kansas State University on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After having their offense shut down in two games Friday by Eastern Illinois University, Southeast busted out on Saturday and scored 22 runs including five long balls in a 22-9 defeat of EIU. The 22 runs were only the third time this season the Tribe had scored in double figures.

Brian Hopkins is swinging a hot bat as of late. He had two homers in Saturday's game and it was the second time this season he has went deep twice in a game. He leads the Tribe with a .380 batting average and his nine homers is third in the league. Justin Christian and Zach Borowiak are batting .355 and .354, respectively with Zach pounding out 7 homers and 36 RBI, while having a team-leading 13 doubles.

Alvarez is leading the pitching staff with a 9-2 record, and a 1.89 ERA. He picked up just his second loss of the season yesterday despite pitching a complete game. Jon Nourie leads the OVC in strikeouts per nine innings with an 11.75 mark. Nourie has struck out 47 batters in just 36 innings of work.

The Wildcats are 12-25 on the season and had lost 16 games in a row before taking two of three this past weekend from Texas Tech. The losing streak coincided with the beginning of Big 12 play as they had lost every single game in the conference before this weekend.

Senior first baseman Tim Doty is leading the team offensively. He is batting .362 with 8 homers and 34 RBI. Ryan Baldwin leads the team with 44 RBI as Ty Soto is hitting .360.

Jim Ripley is 3-4 with a 5.91 ERA on the season. He leads the team with 39 strikeouts in 45 innings.

As a team, KSU has a .292 batting average and a 7.12 ERA. They are in last place, tied with Oklahoma in the Big 12.

After this series, Southeast will continue its 11-game road swing and get back into conference play as they head to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on Austin Peay in a three-game series.
