Southeast Missouri State travels to Charleston, Ill., this weekend to play a three-game series with the Panthers of Eastern Illinois. Southeast comes into the action two games out of first place and one game behind second-place EIU.

SCOUTING SOUTHEAST... The Indians come into the action having lost four of their last five games. Most recently, the Tribe fell 9-6 to Southern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon. Southeast was plagued with a pair of early errors, and the Indians used five pitchers in the game. However, just three of the nine runs given up were earned. The Southeast hitting was strong, as usual, outhitting the Salukis 14-11. The first three hitters in the Southeast lineup (Eric Horstman, Ernie Bracamonte, Frankie Montiel) combined for eight hits in the game, and six of those went for extra bases.

Horstman and Bracamonte rank either one or two in nearly every offensive category for the Tribe. Horstman leads the team in batting average, hits, runs, at bats, triples, total bases, on-base percentage and stolen bases. Bracamonte leads the team in RBIs, and walks, and is second in average, hits, runs, home runs, total bases, at bats, on-base percentage and stolen bases.

SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS... The Panthers have played very well as of late, having one four of their last five and 11 of their last 14 games. Freshman Ryan Campbell leads them offensively with a .380 average and five home runs. Sophomore Kirk Miller leads EIU with a 4.60 ERA, but has just a 2-4 record.
