Redhawks Baseball Inks Zak Blemker
April 26, 2005 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Tuesday, April 26, 2005) Redhawks baseball head coach Mark Hogan announced the signing of Zak Blemker of Vincennes University in Indiana to a National Letter of Intent for the 2006 season. Blemker is a native of Vincennes, Indiana and will play shortstop for the Redhawks. After missing the beginning of the 2005 season with an injury he has been on a tear since returning to the lineup. He has sparked his team since leading them to a 9-1 record, improving the team to 15-11. He is batting .467, has a .633 slugging percentage and a .600. In 2004 he was the team's 2nd leading hitter despite playing the season with a stress fracture in his throwing arm. His defensive play has improved every year as well as his feel for the game and situations. "Zak should step in and compete for the starting shortstop position next season," said Coach Hogan. "We are excited to have signed him and can't wait to get him on campus so we can continue to help him improve as a ballplayer." As a prep he help lead Vincennes Lincoln High School to a state championship in his junior season. That season he was named All-Conference and All-Area as he led the team in hitting. His senior year he repeated the feat as well as being named team MVP. He won the team's Golden Glove Award for the third-straight season. He was also selected to the Hoosier Diamond All-State Team and was a member of the Indiana South All Star Team. Blemker currently holds a 3.46 grade point average.
