Cape Girardeau, Mo. (May 2, 2003)- The Southeast Missouri State Indian baseball team will head to Martin, Tennessee this weekend as they take on the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin in a three-game OVC series on Saturday and Sunday.

Southeast is coming off a stinging loss at the hands of No. 24 Missouri. The Tribe had a chance for the upset, up by four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but five late runs by the Tigers capped off by a Ryan Rallo walk off homer lifted the Tigers over the Tribe, 11-10. Southeast outhit the Tigers and slugged four homers in the game.

Brian Hopkins is swinging a hot bat as of late. He had another homer against Missouri as he moved his career-high home run total to 12 on the season. He leads the Tribe with a .401 batting average and his 12 homers are third in the league. Justin Christian and Zach Borowiak are batting .371 and .370, respectively with Zach pounding out 8 homers and 42 RBI, while having a team-leading 13 doubles. Christian has 9 longballs.

Alvarez is leading the pitching staff with a 10-2 record, and a 2.27 ERA. He picked up 10th win of the season against Peay. Jon Nourie leads the OVC in strikeouts per nine innings with an 11.48 mark. Nourie has struck out 53 batters in just 41 innings of work.

Martin is 14-22-1 and 3-8-1 in the conference. They have lost three in a row and 13 of their last 17.

The Skyhawks are being led offensivley by Brady Nighswonger. He is batting .384 with five homers and 21 RBI. Dan Stevens is batting .325 with three homers and a team-leading 33 RBI.

Donnie Corey is the reigning OVC pitcher of the week and is 4-3 with a 3.78 ERA. he has struck out 48 in 52 innings. Justin Bryant is 3-2 with a 5.64 ERA, but is second in the OVC in fewest walks with 13.

The Skyhawks, as a team, are hitting .299 with a team ERA of 7.01. Opponents are hitting .333 off of Skyhawk pitching.

After this series, Southeast will conclude its 11-game road swing with a weekday series at Southwest Missouri, then play host to its last home series against Morehead State next weekend.
