CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State senior utility player Asif Shah (Cincinnati, Ohio) was added Wednesday to the revised watch list for the College Baseball Foundation's Brooks Wallace Award. Shah is one of three players from the Ohio Valley Conference as part of the watch's 112 candidates for the award, joining Eastern Illinois' Erik Huber and Jacksonville State's Clay Whittemore.

Shah has helped the Redhawks to a 27-18 record and first-place tie in the OVC at the plate and on the mound this season. He ranks third in the OVC with 45 RBI and has posted a 3.12 earned run average to place fifth in the conference. Shah is also the first player in conference history to win OVC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season. He is currently hitting .307 with nine doubles and five home runs, while producing a 5-2 pitching record and is tied for the team lead with 60 strikeouts

The Wallace Award is a dedication to the memory of the former Texas Tech player and assistant coach Brooks Wallace. Wallace was a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977 to 1980. A four-year starter, he was named All-Southwest Conference and All-District his senior year. After playing two years in the Texas Rangers organization, he returned to Texas Tech and served as a graduate assistant and later as an assistant coach. In the summer of 1984, he was diagnosed with cancer and fought the disease courageously until his death on March 24, 1985, at age 27.

The Redhawks are back in action this weekend as they travel to Eastern Kentucky for a three-game OVC series. Both teams open the series with a doubleheader this Saturday at 12 Noon.
