Redhawks Baseball Hosts OVC Opponent Morehead State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo- (Friday, May 6, 2005) Southeast Missouri State University welcomes the Eagles of Morehead State. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the series finale to be played on Sunday; the first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on both days. Last season the Redhawks swept the season series with the Eagles. The Redhawks hold a 29-14 advantage all-time against the Eagles.

Scouting Southeast

The Redhawks are coming off a mid-week game to Missouri Valley opponent Evansville. The Redhawks (16-27, 7-11 OVC) 10 hit performance was not enough as they fell to the Aces, 13-6.

Eric Horstman went 2-4, with three RBIs and one run scored against Evansville. Horstman's 2-4 performance extended his hitting streak to 13 games. It was also his 15th multiple hit game of the season. On the season Horstman is hitting .335, with 29 runs scored and 9 stolen bases in 11 attempts.

James Clayton went 2-3 with a two runs scored against Evansville. On the season Clayton is hitting .256, with 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

Frank Montiel went 1-4 with one RBI on Wednesday. On the season Montiel is hitting .325, with 31 RBIs and 13 doubles.

Joey Evans leads the Redhawks pitching staff with a 6-4 record. Evans has a 2.91 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.

Ernie Bracamonte and Eric Horstman have started in 100 consecutive games for the Redhawks. Both players have not missed a game during their career at Southeast.


 

 

Coach Mark Hogan reached another career milestone as he won his 700th game against Eastern Illinois on April 23rd. Coach Hogan has a career record of 701-516-3 in his 24th year as a college head coach. In his 11th year at Southeast Coach Hogan has a record of 324-260-1.

Following the series with Morehead State the Redhawks will continue conference play as they travel to Cookeville, Tennessee for a three-game series against Tennessee Tech. The Redhawks will play a doubleheader on Friday with the series finale on Saturday the first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on both days.

Scouting Morehead State

The Eagles enter the weekend series after a mid-week loss to Louisville. The Eagles (25-19, 13-4 OVC) are in first place in the OVC with a conference record of 13-4. The Eagles lead the OVC with 334 runs scored.

The Eagles are led offensively by Bryan Ingram. The senior infielder is hitting .364, with 50 RBIs and 12 home runs.

Senior infielder Lance Seasor is hitting .367, with 39 RBIs and 12 home runs on the season. Seasor leads the league with 49 runs scored.

The Eagles pitching staff is led by Adrian Duran. The senior is 7-4, with a 3.08 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 87.2 innings pitched.

John Jarnagin is in his 10th year as head coach at Morehead State with a record of 226-306.
