Doubleheader With Golden Eagles Rescheduled for 1:00 p.m.

May 15, 2006

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Monday, May 15, 2006) The Redhawks baseball team announced that their scheduled Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader against Tennessee Tech set for Friday, May 19 at Capaha Field has been moved up to 1:00 p.m. The twinbill was originally scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.

The series with the Golden Eagles (17-34, 10-14 OVC) is crucial for both teams as the Redhawks (18-30, 9-15 OVC) sit one game behind the Golden Eagles for the sixth and final OVC Tournament spot. A sweep by the Redhawks clinches the final spot. Morehead State, Tennessee-Martin and Murray State are also alive for the final spot but need to sweep their games (all three teams play on the road against three of the top teams in the standings) and help for their OVC dreams to be realized.

The Redhawks swept the Golden Eagles last season in Cookeville, Tennessee and have won five out their last six games in the series. Last season the Redhawks offense wore out the Golden Eagles pitching staff as they scored 46 runs including a 20-run game in the opening game. The Redhawks lead the overall series 30-15.

Jordan Payne led the team with a .692 average against the Golden Eagles last season, he collected three doubles, one triple, scored nine times and drove in three. Jamie McAlister had one of his best outings in his career pitching six strong innings, allowing only one run off of three hits in a 10-1 game two win.

The Redhawks will warm-up for the series with a non-conference game against in-state rival Saint Louis tomorrow at Capaha Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and can be heard live on ESPN 1220 KGIR or webstreamed at kgir.com.
