BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Southeast junior center fielder Frankie Montiel earned OVC Player of the week honors today for his efforts in leading Southeast to a 3-1 record this week, including a 2-1 weekend against Tennessee Tech, which helped the Indians clinch a spot in the OVC Tournament.

Montiel hit .600, going 9-for-15 at the plate. He had three multiple-hit games during the week, including a 4-for-4 performance against Arkansas State last Tuesday. Montiel's RBI-double against ASU was the deciding blow in Southeast's 6-4 win.

The slugging junior, from Guadalupe, Ariz., slugged .867 for the week, with 13 total bases, capped by his four doubles. Montiel leads the Indians with 19 two-baggers on the season. He's also the top slugger for Southeast with a .529 slugging percentage.

Montiel played errorless ball for the Tribe against ASU and Tennessee Tech and upped his season average to .342 in the midst of a five-game hitting streak.

Southeast next travels to Columbia, Mo., to take on the Tigers of the University of Missouri this Wednesday at 6 p.m. After that, the Tribe will head to Martin, Tenn., to play Tennessee-Martin on Friday and Saturday.
