Brentwood, Tenn. (May 20, 2002) - Southeast Missouri State junior pitcher Tim Alvarez has earned his second OVC Pitcher of the Week honor today as announced by the league office in Brentwood.

Alvarez picks up the honor after throwing a three-hit gem for one of Southeast's two wins at Arkansas. The junior left-hander went the distance in the nine-inning contest, allowing one run while striking out seven batters and walking three. He also retired three of Morehead State's top guns in succession during two frames of scoreless relief in Game 2 versus the Eagles. Alvarez is 5-1 on the season and boasts a league-low 2.88 ERA while holding opponents to an OVC-low .224 batting average.

This is the second time Alvarez has won the award with the other occasion being in the week of April 15. He becomes the first pitcher this season to repeat and is the only player other than Pete Pirman of Eastern Illinois to win a Player or Pitcher of the Week award twice.

Alvarez and the Indians will be in action at the OVC Tournament this Wednesday through Saturday in Paducah, Ky. The Tribe will face off against the #6 seed Morehead State Eagles in a re-match of the last series of the season. All games will be played at Brooks Stadium in Paducah.
