PADUCAH, Kent. - (Tuesday, May 24, 2005) Redhawks third baseman Eric Horstman was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference 1st Team at the league's annual awards banquet on the eve of the 2005 O'Reilly Auto Parts OVC Championships Tuesday night in Paducah, Kentucky. Horstman was the lone selection for the Redhawks who had three players selected last year.

For Horstman it was the second-straight season he was named All-OVC after garnering 2nd Team honors last season as a utility player.

The team honor comes after being named OVC Player of the Week twice this season, the only player in the OVC to be named more than once this season.

"I'm extremely proud of Eric," said Redhawks head coach Mark Hogan. "He's had a marvelous season for us and in my opinion was a no-brainer to be chosen as a first-teamer. I know he's happy about the recognition but wants the team to share in something bigger like the OVC Tournament Championship, that's what drives him and that's what makes him such a great player."

Horstman has put together another outstanding season after last year's record-setting year. He leads the team in 14 statistical categories including batting average (.355), hits (75), runs (47), stolen bases (10), on base percentage (.432), total bases (94) and at bats (211).

In OVC play he's been on fire batting .390 with 41 hits and 31 runs scored.

The Omaha, Nebraska native has started every single game in his two-year career a streak of 110-straight games.

He currently has a career-high 24-game hitting streak, which ties the OVC's best this season.

Additionally he has reached base safely in 46-straight games. That streak is the nation's longest active streak.

He's currently on the cusp of setting various Redhawks records as he currently ranks in the top-ten in a number of single season charts. His 54 games played this season is tied for fourth just three games short of the record that he set last season. His 211 at bats is tied for sixth. His 75 hits ranks sixth as well.

On the career charts his career average of .362 ranks seventh all-time.

Horstman will attempt to keep all his streaks alive as well as help the Redhawks earn a NCAA Regional berth as they open play at the OVC Tournament tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against Murray State at Brooks Stadium in Paducah. The game can be heard live on ESPN 1220 KGIR or on GoSoutheast.com.
