June 8, 2005

By Lindell Shores -

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Wednesday June 8, 2005) - Redhawks baseball head coach Mark Hogan announced the signing of Jason Meystedt of Jackson, Mo. to a National Letter of Intent for the 2006 season.

Meystedt, a native of Jackson, Missouri will play for the Redhawks club as both a pitcher or fielder. During the 2005 season at Jackson High School, Meystedt had a batting average of .412 to go along with an on base percentage of .529. Meystedt led the team with seven homeruns, nine doubles for a .853 slugging percentage and a team-high 28 RBIs.

On the mound he went 5-3 with an ERA of 2.46 in eight starts, five of which were complete games. He pitched a team high of 59.2 innings with 52 strikeouts.

Southeast coach Mark Hogan said he's happy to sign a talented athlete like Meystedt, who could pitch or play the field for the Redhawks.

"He's a really good athlete, we're looking forward to exploring all the options for him," Hogan said.

Meystedt was named Southeast Missourian Player of the Year as well as Semo Conference Player of the Year this past season. During his senior year he lead the team to the Semo conference championship and the Class 4 district title.
