All-American Team in PDF Format
Providence, RI (June 10, 2003) - Senior left handed pitcher Tim Alvarez has been named to his second All-American team in two weeks as the National College Baseball Writer's Association named him a third team selection when they released their teams today in Providence. Alvarez was 14-3 this season being named the Ohio Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Year. He was twice named the Pitcher of the Week in the league, and was named the National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Magazine after throwing the first-ever no-hitter in OVC Tournament history. He concluded his stellar career last week by being drafted in the 36th round by the San Francisco Giants in the Major League Baseball Draft. His 14 wins is a Southeast record and ties an OVC mark. He is tied for the national lead in that category. He had the league's best ERA for the second-straight season at 2.74 and led the OVC in wins, ERA, opponent's batting average, innings pitched, complete games and shutouts, while being second in strikeouts and runners picked off. Alvarez was previously named along with Justin Christian to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper/TPX All-American third team. The American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region teams will be announced before the College World Series with the All-American Team announced in Omaha. |
