June 10, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - A familiar sound to Southeast baseball fans can be heard during Memphis Redbirds games at Auto Zone Park in Memphis, Tenn. Southeast Missouri State baseball organist, Jeremy Boyer, filled in and handled the game entertainment for the St. Louis Cardinals Triple-A Affiliate on June 4th and 5th and will play at about half of the team's remaining games.

"Their organist, who has been playing there for about 30 years, is having some health issues," Boyer said. "A fellow SEMO alum, who is interning with the Redbirds, mentioned my name and they gave me a call. There is one other guy filling in who I am splitting the rest of the games with."

Boyer plays "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch at Auto Zone Park.

Boyer, a Potosi, Mo., native, and 2004 Southeast graduate, still resides in Cape Girardeau and entertains Southeast baseball fans at Capaha Field during the Redhawks baseball season and also plays music in the summer for the Plaza Tire Capahas. His fill-in role with the Cardinals organization may not be limited to just the Triple-A team.

"I study with Ernie Hays, the Cardinals organist," he said. "He asked if I'd be interested in playing some at Busch Stadium so there's always that possibility."

Boyer, who has been playing the organ for 15 years, also runs a professional choir for National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville, Mo. When asked what comes next professionally, the modest Boyer replied, "Hopefully I'll be playing for the Cardinals, only time will tell."

Until then, Southeast fans can witness Boyer's talents in person at Auto Zone Park and Capaha Field for some Plaza Tire Capahas games. Win or lose, Boyer provides Major League entertainment and dazzles fans of all ages.
