Pennington and Beatty Bring Home More Hardware Southeast hurler Todd Pennington and designated hitter Brad Beatty named to All South Region Team
June 11, 2001 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Having already appeared on All-American teams earlier this season, Southeast Missouri State baseball players, junior Todd Pennington and freshman Brad Beatty were honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) by being selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All South Region Teams as announced by representatives today. Pennington, a first team All South selection, has already been named to the Louisville Slugger/TPX second team and the Baseball Weekly second team. Pennington, the OVC Pitcher of the Year, compiled a 12-2 record in 2001 and led NCAA Division I with a 1.33 earned run average. He was also selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 46th round of this year's annual amateur baseball draft. Beatty, a second team All South selection, had previously been named to the Louisville Slugger/TPX Freshman All-American honorable mention team. Beatty completed a fantastic freshman campaign, batting a .353 with 10 doubles, four homers and 32 RBI's in 50 games. Pennington and Beatty faced stiff competition on these teams, as most of the first and second team was comprised of players from SEC schools and/or College World Series participants. Pennington will now have his named placed on the national ABCA/Rawlings ballot. |
