Richmond, Va. (June 16, 2003) - With only two All-American teams left to be announced, senior lefty Tim Alvarez is well on his way to being the first consensus All-American in Southeast baseball history after being named to the second team by the Collegiate Baseball Insider.

So far, this off-season, Alvarez has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Magazine and National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association third teams, while being named last week first team All-South Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Alvarez was 14-3 this season being named the Ohio Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Year. He was twice named Pitcher of the Week in the league, and was named the National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Magazine after throwing the first-ever no-hitter in OVC Tournament history. He concluded his stellar career by being drafted in the 36th round by the San Francisco Giants in the Major League Baseball Draft.

His 14 wins is a Southeast record and tie an OVC mark. He is third in the nation in that category. He had the league's best ERA for the second-straight season at 2.74 and led the OVC in wins, ERA, opponent's batting average, innings pitched, complete games and shutouts, while being second in strikeouts and runners picked off.

The American Baseball Coaches Association All-American Team will be announced in Omaha sometime this week.
