RICHMOND, Va. - Southeast Missouri State University's Brad Smith earned Honorable Mention All-American status from CollegeBaseballInsider.com. The junior closer for this year's baseball team broke three records for the Indians this year. Smith shattered the single-season saves record by closing out 11 games this year. In just one year at Southeast, his performance was great enough to place him atop the all-time list for saves at Southeast. He also broke the single-season record for appearances with 30.

Smith earned first team All-OVC honors last month, as he helped lead the Indians to the championship game of the OVC Tournament in Paducah, Ky. He posted a 2.48 ERA with a 3-2 record on the season. In addition, he struck out 66 batters while only walking 16 in 54.1 innings of work. He led the team by holding opposing batters to a .199 batting average.

He was even more dominating in league play as he held OVC batters to just a .184 batting average, while posting a 2.25 ERA and striking out 35 batters while walking only 8.

As well as leading the team in saves and appearances, he was also tops in strikeouts per inning and strikeout to walk ratio, and he held right-handed batters to a miniscule .154 batting average.

Smith was a member of the 2004 squad that posted a 29-28 record.
