CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State senior baseball player Matt Carter (Carlinville, Ill.) was recently appointed as a member of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Carter was nominated by the Ohio Valley Conference to serve as its representative and is one of 31 student-athletes on the committee from every conference in Division I athletics.

The purpose of the national SAAC is to provide feedback on issue involving student-athlete welfare and their experiences in and out of competition. Carter's primary duty as the OVC's representative is to serve as a liaison between the conference and the national SAAC committees. He will also help develop and initiate ideas for a strategic plan for the national SAAC.

"It's a great honor to be chosen by the national SAAC board to represent the student-athletes of the OVC and Southeast Missouri State," said Carter, who made eight appearances as a right-handed pitcher for the Redhawks last season.

Carter will serve a two-year term on the committee that will expire on Sept. 1, 2008 as all student representatives are allowed to serve one year past their final year of collegiate eligibility.
