Grey Team Forces Fifth Game of Steak & Beans Series
Oct. 21, 2009
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Grey team scored four runs in the fifth inning to fuel a 7-3 win and force a fifth and final game of the Southeast Missouri State baseball team's annual Steak & Beans series. The intrasquad series will wrap up Wednesday at Capaha Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., CT. The White team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Grey starting pitcher Nick Thomas in the first. Nick Harris was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a base hit by Trenton Moses. Moses later touched home on a two-out double by Michael Adamson. The Grey team, however, scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Moments after the White team tied things up at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, the Grey squad blew the game open with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brad LaBruyere picked up the win on the mound. Offensively, the Grey team was led by Ryan Abernathy's three hits. Moses and Cal Broz had two hits apiece to lead the White team. Lance Young suffered the loss. Young relieved Shae Simmons, who recorded seven strikeouts and walked one on the day. The winner of Wednesday's game will enjoy a steak dinner. |
