Nov. 14, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State baseball team announced its first early signee of the early signing period. The Indians have picked up right-handed pitcher Jason Phillips. Phillips signs the national letter of intent to play at Southeast Missouri State in 2005.

Phillips, of Moss Point, Miss., currently pitches for Meridian Community College, in Meridian, Miss. He is the top reliever of the talented Meridian pitching staff and helped lead MCC to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., last year.

Phillips compiled a 4-1 record with one save and a 4.38 ERA.

"We are very excited about Jason's commitment to our programs," said head coach Mark Hogan. "We think he will make an immediate impact on a very good returning pitching staff next year."

This year's Southeast baseball team will begin the season Feb. 21 at Oklahoma.
