BOSTON, Mass. (Wednesday, December 20, 2006) - Kerry Robinson, former Southeast baseball standout, signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox. In addition to the contract to play for Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League, Robinson was also invited to Boston's Major League Spring Training as a non-roster player.

The signing was one of eight announced on Wednesday by Red Sox Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

Boston will be Robinson's ninth professional organization since breaking into the professional ranks in 1995.

Robinson, a 33-year-old outfielder, was with the Kansas City Royals organization in 2006. He hit .311 with two homers and 40 RBI in 100 games at Triple-A Omaha and .266 with five RBI in 18 games with the Royals.

The outfielder's career major league average is .267 with three homers and 56 RBI in 463 games with Tampa Bay (1998), Cincinnati (1999), St. Louis (2001-03), San Diego (2004), and Kansas City (2006). Robinson appeared in more than 100 games in three consecutive seasons with the Cardinals.

Robinson was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 34th round in 1995 after a three-year career at Southeast Missouri State. Robinson posted a .322 career average with Southeast. In 1995, he recorded 87 hits, a Southeast single-season record, and also hit safely in 35 consecutive games. The 35-game hitting streak stood as an Ohio Valley Conference record for 10 years until it was broken in 2006.
