Assistant Coach:
4th season at Southeast

Tom Schuberth, voted one of the three most visible assistant coaches in the country by the Hoop Scoop Magazine, will be in his fourth season at Southeast Missouri.

This fall Schuberth turned down the head coaching job at Christian Brothers University in Memphis in order to remain at Southeast.

He spent five seasons at the University of Memphis where he established himself as one of the nation's premier recruiters. His 1993 recruiting class at Memphis was ranked number one in the nation by Boby Gibbon's recruiting service. In 1995 he signed McDonald's High School All-American Lorenzen Wright, who went on to be named National Freshman of the Year.

From 1983-1992, Schuberth served as head assistant basketball coach at Northeast Louisiana hwhere he was recruiting coordinator and personally recruited over 85% of the players in the program during his final six years.

Four of the Northeast Louisiana teams reached the NCAA tournament and the 1988 team participated in the NIT.

Schuberth, who also spent one season as an assistant coach at North Alabama, was a three-year basketball letterman at Mississippi State and was a two-time Academic All-Southeastern Conference. He began his collegiate career at Nevada-Las Vaegas and lettered on the UNLV 1977 team that reached the NCAA Final Four.

Originally from Chicago, Schuberth coached the 1977 Chicago National AAU Basketball Team to a record of 22-4. The AAU schedule included games in twelve cities across the United States.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity we have at Southeast Missouri State," Schuberth said. "First, it's a great opportunity because of Coach Garner. But second, we have the ingredients here to be successful. We have a great facility, a lot of interest and the program had a great Division II tradition. We are building a Division I tradition."
