Tennessee Tech Edges Southeast

Jan. 9, 2005

Final Stats

Cookeville, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri got a shot to win and a shot to tie, but both rolled off and Tennessee Tech survived with a 63-61 Ohio Valley Conference win.

Southeast, 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the OVC, led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but the Golden Eagles, 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the OVC, battled back to take the lead at 49-48 with 8:58 remaining. It was a see saw battle the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than three points.

Ryan Belcher gave Southeast a 61-59 lead with 31-seconds remaining but Amadi McKenzie scored a rebound basket and was fouled with 11-seconds remaing. He hit the free throw to put the Golden Eagles up by one. Dainmon Gonner raced the length of the floor on the dribble, but missed the layup with eight seconds remaining and Derek Stribling rebounded and was fouled. He hit one of two free throws to put the Golden Eagles up by two.

Terrick Willoughby got up an off balance 15-footer at the buzzer but it fell off and the Golden Eagles had the victory.

Stribling led Tech with 20 points while McKenzie had a career high 18. Reggie Golson led Southeast with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Southeast will host Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at the Show Me Center.
