Men's Hoops Downs Murray State, 78-68

CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - Brandon Griffin scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season as Southeast Missouri beat Murray State 78-68 Saturday night to break an 11-game home losing streak against the Racers.

Murray State pulled within 56-53 with 6:01 to play, but the Indians pulled away with a 7-0 run and the Racers couldn't get any closer than six after that.

The Indians' last home win against the Racers was Feb. 20, 1992.

Tim Scheer scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the first half as the Indians (7-9, 2-3 Ohio Valley) jumped out to a 38-23 halftime lead.

Griffin extended the lead to 42-23 with two quick baskets to open the second half. Murray State (9-6, 2-2) charged back with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 50-46 with 11:38 to play.

Damarcus Hence and Derek Winans each scored 15 points for Southeast Missouri and Brett Hale scored 10. Kevin Roberts had 11 assists and six steals.

James Singleton had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Murray State, which had won 21 of 24 previous meetings with the Indians. Chris Shumate and Rick Jones added 13 points apiece for the Racers.

Southeast Missouri forced 19 Murray State turnovers.

The Indians surpassed their win total from last season, when they went 6-22.
